How to plan a summer of camp in Frisco (2027)

Filling a whole summer with camps takes some planning, especially if you work full time or have more than one child. Here's a simple way to do it.

Updated Oct 14, 2026

1. Map out your summer

Frisco ISD’s last day of school is Friday, May 14, 2027, so summer camp weeks start Monday, May 17. That’s about 13 weeks through mid-August.

  • Mark family trips and weeks with relatives first. Those don’t need a camp.
  • Note the short weeks: Memorial Day (Monday, May 31) and Independence Day, observed Monday, July 5. Some camps run four-day weeks or close.
  • The end of summer depends on when school starts. In 2026, Frisco ISD started on August 12; the 2027–28 calendar isn’t published yet.

2. Decide what each week needs

Not every week needs the same kind of camp.

  • Working both days? Look for camps that cover a full workday, with before- and after-care or long hours. In our directory, filter by “Covers a workday (8–5:30)”, and check the daily hours timeline on each camp page.
  • Flexible weeks? Half-day camps are a good way to try a new interest without committing a full week.
  • Younger kids? First-time campers often do better with shorter days and smaller groups.

3. Mix anchor camps with specialty weeks

Many families pick one or two anchor camps, usually full-day day camps that run all summer, for most weeks. Then they add specialty weeks for interests like coding, sports, music or art.

Anchor camps keep drop-off simple. Specialty weeks keep the summer interesting.

4. Check the real weekly cost

The listed price is only part of the cost. Before comparing camps, add:

  • Before- and after-care fees
  • Lunch, if it isn’t included
  • Registration or membership fees
  • Field trip fees on some weeks

Ask about sibling and multi-week discounts. For lower-cost options, see camps under $200 a week.

5. Get ready for registration day

Popular camps can fill quickly. Use our registration calendar to see when camps open, create accounts on camp sites ahead of time, and have payment ready.

6. Put it all in one plan

Our free summer planner lets you fill each week for each child and see your gaps and estimated total at a glance.

  • Plan it for me: give each child’s age and interests, and we’ll suggest a camp for every week. You can change anything after.
  • Siblings: keep brothers and sisters at the same camp when it fits, for one drop-off.
  • Share with your co-parent: send a link with the whole plan.
  • Calendar: add every registration date in your plan to your calendar in one click.

Common questions

How many weeks of summer do Frisco kids have?

Frisco ISD's last day of school is Friday, May 14, 2027, so summer camp weeks start Monday, May 17. The district hasn't published its 2027–28 calendar yet; in 2026 school started on August 12. Our planner covers May 17 through August 13.

When should I start planning?

Start in the winter, before registration opens. Decide your weeks and first choices early, so you're ready when popular camps open sign-ups.

Can I combine half-day camps?

Yes. Many families pair a morning camp with an afternoon camp nearby. Check who supervises lunch in between, or whether the camp offers both sessions with lunch supervised.

How do I plan for more than one child?

Plan each child separately, then look for weeks where they can attend the same camp so you only have one drop-off. Our planner's "Plan it for me" can keep siblings at the same camp when it fits everyone's ages.
